Winona Ryder Professionally Winona Ryder, was born in Winona Minnesota. Her parents named her in honor of the town she grew up in. The father of her Michel Horowitz and her mother Cynthia Palmer were authors and editors. Ryder's dad came from the Jewish family. Ryder considers her self Jewish. The actress has a younger brother Uria and two half-siblings Jubal and Sunyata. Ryder made the move with her family members to Mendocino County California at the age of seven. In the area, there was no electricity. Ryder was an avid read and would spend her days reading a book because she didn't have a TV. Ryder was 12 when she enrolled at the American Conservatory Theatre for acting classes in 1983. At the age of 15, Ryder was offered a part in Lucas the first of her major film. Ryder was bullied at her high school. Ryder believed that her future acting as a professional would bring about change. Unfortunately, that did not happen. She continued to pursue her dreams. Her first big break was in 1988 when she appeared in Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. Ryder continued to be successful in her parts in a variety of films. She was nominated for two Academy Awards one for her role as a character in The Age of Innocence (1993).
